    How to read the index

Mushrooms usually appear 1–2 weeks after a proper soaking, so rain from 6–16 days ago matters most, not yesterday’s.

Moist soil and about 9–19 °C push the index up. Frost and drought cut it, and the season sets the ceiling. In the Southern Hemisphere the season is shifted by six months.

The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.

    FAQ

How long after rain do mushrooms grow?

Usually 7–14 days after heavy rain, when the soil stays moist and the temperature is about 9–19 °C.

    Where are mushrooms growing now?

The map shows the index for each forest. The highest score means the best mix of rain, soil moisture and temperature.

Do I need a permit to pick mushrooms?

It depends on the country and forest. Some have daily limits or paid permits, and national parks often ban picking. Each forest page lists the local rules.
