How to read the index
Every herb has its time: wild garlic in spring before flowering, elderflower in June, berries in autumn. The index follows the calendar of herbs typical of the region.
Pick on a dry morning after rain, away from roads and fields. Never pick anything you cannot identify with complete certainty: wild garlic is easily confused with deadly lily of the valley and autumn crocus.
Do not miss the next window
The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.

FAQ
Can I pick wild garlic?
It depends on the country. In Poland wild-growing wild garlic is partially protected and may only be picked with a permit. In the UK and Germany small amounts of leaves for personal use are generally allowed. Our rules guide has the details.
What can wild garlic be confused with?
With deadly lily of the valley and autumn crocus. Wild garlic smells of garlic when you crush a leaf, but that is not enough: check every leaf.
Do you say what herbs are good for?
No. We only cover identification, season, cooking and rules. EU law bans unauthorised health claims; ask a doctor or pharmacist about health.
