See the pre-saleWhere to look
Look in spruce and pine forest and in mixed woodland with birch. To avoid the crowds, go in early on a weekday and get away from the car parks. Track edges and clearings deeper in the forest give the best results.
What grows here
penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), bay bolete (podgrzybek brunatny), chanterelle (kurka), birch bolete (koźlarz babka), slippery jack (maślak zwyczajny)
Forest: pine and spruce forest and mixed woodland, with some oak and hornbeam
Season: Chanterelles appear in July, and the season for bay boletes and cep runs from August to October.
Rules
A large part of the forest lies in Knyszyn Forest Landscape Park, where local rules apply. Picking mushrooms is banned in nature reserves. Watch for no-entry signs on forest plantations.
About the forest
Puszcza Knyszyńska (the Knyszyn Forest) lies right next to Białystok, between Supraśl and Knyszyn. It is a compact forest complex of pine forest and mixed woodland. Being close to the city means it can be crowded at weekends.
