See the pre-saleWhere to look
Look in spruce and pine forest at the edges of hollows, and near birches, where birch boletes grow. Chanterelles and cep appear more often in stands older than about 40 years. Pick slight rises, because the lake shores and valleys can be too wet.
What grows here
penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), bay bolete (podgrzybek brunatny), chanterelle (kurka), birch bolete (koźlarz babka), slippery jack (maślak zwyczajny)
Forest: pine and spruce forest and mixed woodland among lakes
Season: The season starts in July with chanterelles and birch boletes. The main wave of cep and bay boletes comes in August, September and early October.
Rules
Part of the forest lies in Wigry National Park (Wigierski Park Narodowy), where picking mushrooms is banned. The ban also applies in nature reserves. Signs mark the boundaries of parks and reserves.
About the forest
Puszcza Augustowska (the Augustów Forest) is a large forest complex in north-east Poland, crossed by lakes and the Augustów Canal. The cooler climate keeps moisture in the forest longer than in the west of the country.
