See the pre-saleWhere to look
Look in fir and beech forest around Delnice, Lokve and Fužine, along forest roads. Cep grows in fir on limestone, chanterelles on mossy edges. Fog and early dusk make it easy to get lost, and the HGSS mountain rescue team in Delnice searches for lost pickers every season.
What grows here
penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), chanterelle (kurka), black trumpet (lejkowiec dęty), honey fungus (opieńka miodowa), parasol (czubajka kania)
Forest: Dinaric fir, beech and spruce forest on limestone
Season: July–October; peak in September.
Rules
Picking in state forests needs a free personal-use permit from Hrvatske šume, valid until 31 December. The limit is 3 kg of mushrooms per person per day, and picking without a permit brings fines of 133–933 euro. Do not pick in Risnjak National Park without the park's consent.
About the forest
Gorski kotar is a mountainous, densely forested region between Rijeka and Zagreb, the most forested part of Croatia. Dinaric fir and beech forest gives plenty of cep in season. People come here to pick mushrooms from all over the country.
