See the pre-saleWhere to look
Look in fir and beech forest south of Bolu town, along forest roads. Chanterelles grow in moss under beech and fir, saffron milk caps under pine, morels in spring. The easiest way is to buy from pickers at local markets.
What grows here
chanterelle (kurka), penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), saffron milk cap (rydz), morel (smardz), parasol (czubajka kania)
Forest: fir, beech and pine forest in the western Black Sea mountains
Season: September–November; morels April–May.
Rules
Turkish forests are mostly state land managed by the General Directorate of Forestry (OGM), and collecting non-wood forest products for sale needs a permit. I found no clear rules for picking for your own use, so ask the local forest office (Orman İşletme Şefliği). Do not pick in national parks or nature parks, and serious mushroom poisonings happen every year in the Black Sea region.
About the forest
Bolu Province in the western Black Sea mountains has some of the richest forests in Turkey, with fir, beech and pine. Villagers pick chanterelles, saffron milk caps and morels here for sale. Ethnomycological studies describe the region as an important centre of the wild mushroom trade.
