saffron milk cap (rydz), king oyster (boczniak mikołajkowy), slippery jack (maślak zwyczajny), penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), morel (smardz)
Forest: extensive pine forest on limestone mountains
Season: October–November for saffron milk caps; April–May for morels and king oysters.
Rules
In Castilla-La Mancha the limit is 5 kg (or 10 litres) per person per day in forests without their own rules, and picking at night is banned. Municipal cotos need a permit and have their own limits. Only a knife and a basket are allowed, no rakes, plastic bags or buckets.
About the forest
The Serranía de Cuenca is a limestone range east of Cuenca, covered with some of the largest pine forests in Spain. In autumn people pick mainly saffron milk caps (níscalos), and in spring king oysters and morels. Part of the area is the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park.
