    How to read the index

Each place has a calendar: when the species it is known for are easiest to see. The deer rut is September and October, crane migration autumn and spring.

The weather does the rest. Rain and strong wind spoil watching, a cold calm dawn suits the rut, and a tailwind helps migrating birds.

Do not miss the next window

The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.
