penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), chanterelle (kurka), orange birch bolete (koźlarz czerwony), bay bolete (podgrzybek brunatny), honey fungus (opieńka miodowa)
Forest: mountain spruce forest with beech and fir, bogs and clearings
Season: July–October; peak in August and September.
Rules
In Šumava National Park picking for personal use is allowed only outside the quiet areas (klidová území) and where a stay-on-path rule does not apply. A ranger can issue an on-the-spot fine of up to 10,000 CZK, and an administrative fine can be several times higher. The royal bolete and Caesar's mushroom are protected in Czechia.
About the forest
Šumava (the Bohemian Forest) is a mountain range on the border of Czechia, Germany and Austria, much of it a national park and protected landscape area (CHKO). The high spruce forests give plenty of cep and birch boletes. It is one of the best known mushroom regions in Czechia.
