Where to look

Look in forest with moss and a bilberry understorey, and at the edges of clearings. Slippery jacks and saffron milk caps grow in younger stands, and bay boletes in older forest. Check places where pine meets birch or oak.

What grows here

bay bolete (podgrzybek brunatny), penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), slippery jack (maślak zwyczajny), chanterelle (kurka), saffron milk cap (rydz)

Forest: pine forest and mixed woodland along the Stobrawa river

Season: The season starts with chanterelles in July. The main flush of bay boletes and slippery jacks runs from August to October.

Rules

A large part of the forest lies in Stobrawa Landscape Park, where local rules apply. Picking mushrooms is banned in nature reserves. In a drought the local forester can temporarily close the forest because of fire risk.

About the forest

Lasy Stobrawskie (the Stobrawa Forests) lie in the Opole region, between Opole, Namysłów and Kluczbork. They are extensive pine forests with some oak and birch. For pickers from Upper Silesia and Wrocław they are an easy trip.
