See the pre-saleWhere to look
Look in beech and mixed forest on gentle slopes and in stream valleys. Avoid steep slopes after rain, because they are slippery. Start in the lower parts of the mountains, where the season begins earlier.
What grows here
penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), bay bolete (podgrzybek brunatny), chanterelle (kurka), honey fungus (opieńka miodowa)
Forest: beech woodland, mixed beech and fir forest, and mountain spruce forest
Season: The season runs from July to October. High in the mountains mushrooms appear later than on the lower slopes.
Rules
Picking mushrooms is banned in Bieszczady National Park (Bieszczadzki Park Narodowy). Nature reserves and a border zone also apply, so near the Ukrainian border check notices from the Border Guard. Brown bears live in Bieszczady, so make some noise and do not walk alone at dusk.
About the forest
Bieszczady is the far south-eastern range of the Polish mountains, with extensive beech and fir forest. The forests are large and sparsely populated. Picking outside the national park needs a good map and decent fitness.
