See the pre-saleWhere to look
Look in fir stands and mixed forest on gentle slopes. Cep and bay boletes grow where fir meets beech, and chanterelles at the edges of tracks. After rain, slopes drain faster than valleys, so check the lower parts of hillsides.
What grows here
penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), bay bolete (podgrzybek brunatny), chanterelle (kurka), honey fungus (opieńka miodowa)
Forest: fir forest, beech woodland and mixed forest in old, low mountains
Season: The season runs from July to October, and cep and bay boletes usually peak in September.
Rules
Picking mushrooms is banned in Świętokrzyski National Park (Świętokrzyski Park Narodowy). The same ban applies in the nature reserves, of which there are quite a few in these hills. Check on a map where the park boundary runs before you set out.
About the forest
Góry Świętokrzyskie (the Holy Cross Mountains) are low, wooded ranges in south-central Poland. Fir and beech are common, with pine and oak at lower levels. The forests around Bodzentyn and Suchedniów are mostly managed and open for picking.
