Look in pine forest and in mixed woodland with oak. Parasol mushrooms grow at forest edges and in clearings, and cep in older stands. You get the best results by walking a few kilometres from the nearest car park.
What grows here
penny bun / cep (prawdziwek), bay bolete (podgrzybek brunatny), chanterelle (kurka), slippery jack (maślak zwyczajny), parasol mushroom (kania)
Forest: pine forest and mixed woodland with oak, on sand
Season: The season starts in July. The main period for bay boletes and cep runs through August, September and October.
Rules
Part of the forest lies in Kozienice Landscape Park. Picking mushrooms is banned in nature reserves. In a high fire risk the local forester can close the forest, so check notices from the forest district.
About the forest
Puszcza Kozienicka (the Kozienice Forest) lies on the Vistula between Radom and Puławy, and is the largest continuous forest in Masovia. Pine dominates, but you will also meet oak, birch and alder. It is close to Warsaw, so many pickers come here.
