See the pre-saleWhere to watch
Choose a seal trip from Oudeschild and check the tides, because seals haul out on the banks at low water. Watch with binoculars from the boat, which stops at a safe distance. At the Ecomare centre in De Koog you can see seals up close.
What you can see
harbour seal, grey seal, Eurasian oystercatcher
Best time: June to August, at low tide
Rules
Many sandbanks in the Wadden Sea are closed areas at set times, marked on charts, and boats may not enter them. If you find a young seal on a beach, do not touch it and call a seal rescue centre. Keep dogs on a lead on beaches with seals.
About the place
The Wadden Sea is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and harbour and grey seals rest on its sandbanks. Boats run from Oudeschild harbour on Texel to sandbanks with seals. Harbour seals pup in summer and grey seals in winter.
