Where to watch

Walk along the beach east from Świbno towards the river mouth and stop at the reserve boundary signs. The seals lie on sandbars, so you need binoculars or a telescope. They are easiest to see in the morning, with light wind and calm water.

What you can see

grey seal, sandwich tern, common ringed plover, white-tailed eagle

Best time: April to June, mornings with light wind

Rules

From 1 April to 15 August entry to the reserve is banned, and the part on the Mikoszewo side is closed all year. The grey seal is strictly protected, and people who scared seals for photos have been fined up to 5,000 zł. Do not bring dogs into the reserve or fly a drone, do not touch a seal lying on the beach, and report it to WWF Poland's Blue Patrol on +48 795 536 009.

About the place

Mewia Łacha reserve lies at the mouth of the Vistula cut, between Świbno and Mikoszewo. The sandbar at the mouth is the only place in Poland where wild grey seals have a year-round haul-out. In spring and summer rare birds nest here, and in autumn migrants stop over.
