Where to watch

In Chyrzyno you get a trail map and news on water levels. Watch the geese at dawn, when they fly out from the floodplain to the fields, and before sunset, when they come back for the night. Stand on a dike or at a viewpoint and use a telescope.

What you can see

taiga/tundra bean goose, greater white-fronted goose, whooper swan, white-tailed eagle, common crane

Best time: October to November and February to March, dawn and sunset

Rules

In the national park you walk only on marked trails (Article 15 of the Nature Conservation Act), and in spring some paths are flooded. Do not disturb flocks at the roost, because gatherings of protected birds are covered by the disturbance ban under Article 52 of that act. Bean and white-fronted geese are game species, so outside the park you may meet a hunt from September to December.

About the place

Warta Mouth National Park covers the floodplains where the Warta meets the Oder, with its headquarters in Chyrzyno near Kostrzyn. In the late 1990s about 200,000 bean and white-fronted geese were counted at the roost here, the largest concentration in Poland. It is also the most important wintering site in Poland for whooper swans.
