Where to watch

Start at the Kranich-Informationszentrum in Groß Mohrdorf, where staff point out current feeding areas. For the evening flight, stand at the viewing point near Günz or at Pramort on Zingst. Arrive an hour before sunset and keep off the fields.

What you can see

common crane, greater white-fronted goose, white-tailed eagle

Best time: late September to October, dusk

Rules

The island of Bock lies in the core zone of Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park and is closed to people. Watch only from marked points and roads, because walking onto fields scares whole flocks. Drones are banned over the national park.

About the place

The Rügen-Bock area, between Rügen and the Zingst peninsula, is one of the largest crane resting sites in Europe. In autumn the birds roost in the shallow lagoons and feed by day on the fields of Western Pomerania. The Kranich-Informationszentrum operates in Groß Mohrdorf.
