See the pre-saleWhere to watch
Park at Bjargtangar and walk the path along the top of the cliff. Puffins sit by their burrows in the grass at the top, so you do not need to go near the edge. In the evening birds return from the sea and numbers are highest.
What you can see
Atlantic puffin, razorbill, common guillemot, black-legged kittiwake
Best time: June to July, evening
Rules
The cliff edge is undermined by burrows and can break off, so stay several metres back and do not lie at the edge. Do not step on puffin burrows and do not touch the birds. Before you launch a drone, check with the Environment Agency of Iceland (Umhverfisstofnun) whether flights are banned at the cliff.
About the place
Látrabjarg in the Westfjords is the largest bird cliff in Europe, about 14 km long and up to 440 m high. Puffins, razorbills, guillemots and kittiwakes nest here. Bjargtangar is the westernmost point of Iceland.
