In the morning, stand on the promenade above the marsh in El Rocío and look for flamingos, spoonbills and ducks. Trails and hides are also found at the El Acebuche and Palacio del Acebrón visitor centres. You enter the heart of the park only on an authorised 4x4 tour.
What you can see
greater flamingo, Iberian lynx, greylag goose, Eurasian spoonbill
Best time: November to April, morning and evening
Rules
Cars may not enter the park or drive on its roads, and many lynx die on the surrounding highways, so drive slowly. Watch only from marked trails and hides. During the El Rocío pilgrimage the area is very crowded, so choose another date.
About the place
Doñana National Park in the Guadalquivir delta usually hosts up to 200,000 waterbirds in winter. It is also one of the last strongholds of the Iberian lynx. The village of El Rocío sits on the edge of the marshes, which you can see straight from the promenade.
