See the pre-saleWhere to look
Look for wild thyme and wild marjoram on sunny slopes around the rocks, but only outside reserves. Juniper and dog rose grow on grassland that is turning to scrub. Elder, nettle and garlic mustard keep to scrub at the foot of the rocks and village edges.
What grows here
wild thyme (breckland thyme), wild marjoram (oregano), common juniper, dog rose (rosehip), yarrow, elder (elderflower, elderberry), stinging nettle, dandelion, wild strawberry, garlic mustard, small-leaved lime (linden)
Habitats: limestone outcrops with warm grassland, juniper and dog rose scrub, beech woods on slopes and pine forest on sand
Rules
Many grasslands and beech woods in the Jura are nature reserves, such as Góra Zborów, where picking plants is banned. Picking is also banned in Ojców National Park. In the Silesian Voivodeship, wild garlic may be harvested only by someone with a permit from RDOŚ in Katowice, by hand and leaving at least 75% of the population.
About the place
The Jura is a limestone upland with rock outcrops and castle ruins between Częstochowa and Kraków. Warm grassland at the foot of the rocks is a good place for wild thyme and wild marjoram. The area around Podlesice and Mirów lies in the Eagles' Nests Landscape Park.
