See the pre-saleWhere to look
Look for meadowsweet and sorrel on the flood meadows below the bank once the water has gone down. Wild thyme grows on dry, sandy banks of the valley. Elder, nettle and white dead-nettle keep to scrub by villages and oxbows.
What grows here
meadowsweet, stinging nettle, elder (elderflower, elderberry), dandelion, yarrow, common sorrel, dog rose (rosehip), small-leaved lime (linden), common chickweed, wild thyme (breckland thyme), white dead-nettle
Habitats: riverside flood meadows, oxbow lakes, willow scrub, sandy banks with grassland and oak-hornbeam woods on the valley sides
Rules
The valley lies in Nadbużański Landscape Park and Natura 2000 sites, and picking plants is banned in nature reserves. Upstream, from around Niemirów, the Bug forms the border with Belarus and then Ukraine, so a border zone and a border strip apply there, and you must not enter the strip. In spring the meadows can be flooded and boggy.
About the place
Near Drohiczyn the Bug flows in a natural channel through wide flood meadows. In spring water covers the valley, and in summer the meadows flower with meadowsweet and yarrow. Sandy banks above the river give wild thyme.
