After storms from the west, search the strandline at the water’s edge. The walk across the sand to the sea is long, so allow time to get back before the tide comes in.

Local rules
The Kniepsand is not part of the national park, but it is a Natura 2000 site and a landscape protection area. Keep off the dunes and out of marked bird nesting areas.
About the beach
The Kniepsand is a huge sandbank along the whole west coast of Amrum, about 15 km long and up to 1.5 km wide.
