See the pre-saleWhere to look
Arrive an hour before low water and follow the falling tide down the shore. Look under overhangs and lift stones gently, then put them back the way they were. In summer the centre runs rockpool safaris.
What you can find
crabs, anemones, starfish, sea urchins, gobies, sea slugs, kelp, wracks
What to do: rockpooling, wildlife watching
Shellfish and sanitary status: The local conservation code asks you not to take any animals, so do not collect shellfish here. Fishing rules for this coast are published by Devon and Severn IFCA.
Rules and safety
The beach is in the Wembury Marine Conservation Area, which follows the Seashore Code: look at animals in place, do not use nets and do not take anything. Fishing is catch and release only. Check the high water time in the UKHO tide tables, because the ledges flood quickly.
About the place
Wembury is one of the best known rockpooling beaches in Britain. At low tide its flat slate ledges expose hundreds of rock pools. The Wembury Marine Centre, run by Devon Wildlife Trust, sits on the beach.
