Where to look

Start at La Rocque harbour and stay close to shore if you are on your own. Go to the outer rocks and Seymour Tower only with a local guide.

What you can find

crabs, anemones, starfish, sea snails, prawns, seaweeds

What to do: rockpooling, wildlife watching

Shellfish and sanitary status: Jersey has its own fishing rules and minimum sizes. Check them with the Government of Jersey (Marine Resources) and do not eat shellfish without checking for health warnings.

Rules and safety

The tide returns fast here and from several directions, and the ground is flat and easy to get lost on. Go on long walks with a guide. The shore is in the Jersey south-east coast Ramsar site.

About the place

Jersey has some of the largest tides in Europe. On a spring low tide, more than ten square kilometres of rock and sand uncover off the island's south-east coast, including the Violet Bank reef. From La Rocque people walk out at low tide as far as Seymour Tower.
