See the pre-saleWhere to look
Take a morning ferry and walk the island's shore at low water. You will find the most pools on the rocks facing the open sea.
What you can find
crabs, anemones, starfish, sea urchins, sea snails, kelp, laver
What to do: rockpooling, seaweed, mussels, wildlife watching
Shellfish and sanitary status: Gathering for your own use is allowed within the Finistère sizes and limits. Check the sanitary status on the pecheapied-responsable.fr map (ARS Bretagne) before you gather.
Rules and safety
National sizes apply, plus the prefect's limits and bans. Check the time of the last ferry, and remember the tide floods the channel between island and mainland fast. Your catch must not be sold.
About the place
Île de Batz is the island facing Roscoff, a short ferry ride away. On big low tides, rock and sand with rich life uncover all around it. Islanders have gathered seaweed here for a long time.
