Where to look

Book a crossing with a licensed guide who knows the quicksand and the tide times. On your own, stay close to the shore at Bec d'Andaine.

What you can find

cockles, shrimps, waders, seals (rare)

What to do: mudflat walking, wildlife watching

Shellfish and sanitary status: Do not go out alone to gather cockles here, because the bay is dangerous. If you go with a guide, check the sanitary status and bans for the Manche with ARS Normandie and the prefecture.

Rules and safety

The bay has quicksand, and the tide comes in fast and unevenly, also through river channels. Do not go far into the bay without a guide. Check the tide coefficient with SHOM and return before the flood.

About the place

Genêts is the starting point for walks across the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. The tides here are among the largest in Europe, and low tide uncovers kilometres of sand. This is a place for a guided walk, not for rockpooling on your own.
