See the pre-saleWhere to look
Take the ferry from Granville and search around Grande Île at low water. Always put turned stones back, because animals live underneath.
What you can find
crabs, anemones, starfish, sea snails, prawns, kelp
What to do: rockpooling, mussels, wildlife watching
Shellfish and sanitary status: Shore gathering is popular here, but Manche sizes, limits and bans apply, and the archipelago is protected. Check the sanitary status and bans with ARS Normandie and the prefecture before you sail.
Rules and safety
The archipelago is protected (Natura 2000), and some parts are closed to people for the birds. The tide cuts off the outer rocks, so head back early and watch the ferry time. Your catch must not be sold.
About the place
Chausey is an archipelago about 17 km off Granville. The difference between high and low tide reaches 14 m. At low water a few dozen islets become several hundred, and the exposed area grows to about 2,000 ha.
