Where to stand
Stand on the open meadow, away from the Chatka Górzystów hostel and its lights. Lie on a mat and look high, halfway between the horizon and the zenith. Arrive in daylight, park in a marked car park and check the access rules, because the last stretch is a narrow forest road.
Horizon
A wide clearing with open sky in all directions except low wooded ridges
Sky darkness (Bortle scale): 4
Rules
The area is peat bog and state forest, so stay on roads and trails, do not camp outside marked sites and do not light fires. In winter, frost and snowdrifts matter, and mountain weather changes fast.
About the spot
The Izera Dark Sky Park was set up in 2009 on the Polish-Czech border and was the first cross-border dark sky park. Hala Izerska is a wide mountain clearing in its Polish part. The sky here is clearly darker than in the valleys around it.
