Where to look

Start at the old church in Højerup and take the stairs down to the beach. Check the blocks that have fallen from the cliff and the flints at the water line. Rødvig in the south is another good starting point.

What you can find

sea urchins, bryozoans, brachiopods, shark teeth (rare)

Best wind: E, NE, SE

Rules and safety

Collecting is allowed along the whole cliff, but you may not chisel into the cliff itself, and at Højerup hammers and chisels are not allowed. Do not disturb the Fish Clay layer. Exceptional finds are danekræ and must be handed to a museum. Cliff falls can happen all year.

About the cliff

Stevns Klint is a limestone and chalk cliff on the east coast of Zealand, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. It shows a thin layer of Fish Clay, the Cretaceous to Paleogene boundary from the time the dinosaurs died out. Blocks with bryozoans and sea urchins lie on the beach.

Do not miss the next window
