Where to look

Walk towards Mechelinki after a storm from the east or north-east. Look at stones in the gravel bands and at the foot of the cliff, where a slump has spilled fresh material.

What you can find

corals in erratics, sponges and brachiopods, trilobites (rare)

Best wind: E, NE

Rules and safety

Pick up only loose finds from the beach. Do not dig into the cliff and do not go under its face. We do not have a full map of protection for this stretch, so check with RDOŚ in Gdańsk whether it lies in a protected area. Report rare finds, for example marine reptile bones, to a museum or the Polish Geological Institute in Gdańsk.

About the cliff

The Polish Geological Institute named the cliffs of the Oksywie Upland, between Babie Doły and Mechelinki, among the most typical fossil sites on this part of the coast. Trilobites in erratics have also been described from the Oksywie cliff. Preservation is usually poor.
