See the pre-saleWhere to look
Look at the foot of the cliff for pieces of dark, hard wood and flakes of brown coal, especially after a storm from the north or north-east. Leaf impressions are in the coal layers, which split easily.
What you can find
fossil wood (xylite), leaf impressions in brown coal, belemnites
Best wind: N, NE
Rules and safety
The cliff is unstable and the beach is narrow. Slumps happen after storms, so do not stand under the face. The cliff lies in the Coastal Landscape Park and in a Natura 2000 area, and there are nature reserves nearby. Take nothing in a reserve. Do not dig into the cliff.
About the cliff
The Chłapowo cliff exposes Miocene sands with seams of brown coal, covered by glacial deposits. The coal holds leaf impressions, and trunks of fossil wood lie in the cliff. These are a different kind of find from West Pomerania: plants, not animals.
