Where to stand
Leave the car at the car park at the end of the road and stand on the upper cliff at the viewpoint, where you can see the lighthouse below. Look north-west and north over the sea. Do not walk down to the lighthouse after dark.

Rules and safety
The path to the lighthouse is steep and the cliffs have no barriers, so after dark stay up by the car park. The Scottish Outdoor Access Code applies. The access road is single track with passing places, so do not park in them.
About the spot
Neist Point is a rocky headland at the western tip of the Isle of Skye, with a lighthouse from 1909. There are no towns nearby, and the sky over the sea is very dark. At a geomagnetic latitude of about 60°, the aurora appears low in the north during moderate storms.
