Rules and safety

The cliffs at the headland are steep and unfenced, so after dark stay by the car park and on the paths. The Atlantic wind can be very strong. Respect private fields and close gates behind you.

About the spot

Malin Head is the most northerly point of Ireland, on the Inishowen peninsula. An old signal tower stands on the hill at Banba's Crown, and to the north there is only ocean. At a geomagnetic latitude of about 58°, the aurora appears low over the sea in storms from about Kp 5.
