Where to stand

Pick up the viewing map at the lodge's Outdoor Activities Center or download it from the park's website, and choose a spot with a view north. From spring to autumn Brockway Mountain Drive is a good choice, overlooking the lake from more than 200 m above the water. Look north over the lake.

Rules and safety

Visitors who are not lodge guests may be in the park from 7 PM to 7 AM. Stay on the lodge grounds, trails and public areas, and do not enter private or tribal land. Brockway Mountain Drive is closed to cars in winter, because it is not ploughed.

About the spot

Keweenaw Dark Sky Park lies at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge near Copper Harbor. To the north there is only Lake Superior. The geomagnetic latitude is about 56°, higher than in Poland, so the aurora appears low in the north during moderate and strong storms.

Do not miss the next window

The best windows last a few hours: after a storm, after rain, on a clear night with an active Sun. Sign up and we will email you when the index at your spots goes above 60.
