Where to stand
Walk to the lake shore from Levi village and stand with the lit slopes behind you. Look north and west over the lake. When the aurora is strong, look up to the zenith too.

Rules and safety
Do not walk on the ice unless you are sure it is thick, and snowmobiles may cross the lake. Everyman's rights let you walk along the shore, but keep out of cabin yards. Stay clear of snowmobile and ski routes.
About the spot
Immeljärvi is a lake right next to the Levi ski resort in Finnish Lapland. The resort is brightly lit, but over the lake you get a wide, flat sky away from the lamps. At a geomagnetic latitude of about 65°, the aurora is frequent here.
